Job Description

Job Title: NodeJS/NestJS Developer
Contract Duration: 6 months to start with performance-based extension

Our client is seeking a Senior level NodeJS / NestJS developer to design, build, deploy, and operate cloud-native, containerized, event-driven applications on Microsoft Azure. This role involves working across the full software lifecycle; from architecture and development to deployment, observability, and optimization. You will collaborate closely with product, design, architecture, and DevOps teams to deliver scalable, resilient, and secure platforms that support our client’s customer-facing and internal systems.

The ideal candidate has strong experience with Azure Container Apps, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, message brokers and queues, Docker/Podman, and application monitoring using Azure Application Insights, combined with deep knowledge of software design patterns, SOLID principles, and distributed systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and operate NestJS / Node.js APIs on Azure Container Apps for web, agent, and mobile clients.
  • Integrate systems of record and approved SaaS vendors through existing adapters and orchestration services.
  • Own services through the full lifecycle: design, implementation, review, deployment, monitoring, and ongoing improvement.
  • Use Azure App Configuration, Key Vault, and Managed Identity as the platform standard.
  • Model application data in Azure SQL (or the named store for the product). Use messaging for asynchronous work. Use cache to speed expensive reads.
  • Call Azure API Management as the front door. Keep health checks local.
  • Instrument services in Application Insights. Investigate incidents, fix defects, and harden the path after a failure.
  • Write automated tests for the contracts that clients consume. Participate in code review and raise the quality bar for the team.
  • Document design choices, failure modes, and runbooks at a level another engineer can operate.
  • Work with product, UX, architecture, and DevOps on scope, estimates, and release readiness.
  • Specify new Azure resources for the landing-zone team.
  • Follow delivery practice: reviewer approval, linked work items, and Canadian data residency.

Qualifications:

  • Production APIs in Node.js, TypeScript, and NestJS.
  • Azure SQL (or equivalent), messaging (Service Bus or similar), and gateway-aware auth (OIDC / JWT / service identity).
  • Clear written design and a habit of testing the contracts clients consume.
  • Container Apps, APIM, App Configuration, Key Vault, Managed Identity.
  • Azure Functions for inbound webhooks.
  • Java / Spring Boot on adjacent system services.
