Job Title: Junior Data Engineer
Contract Duration: 6 months to start

On behalf of our client, we are looking for a curious and hands-on Junior Data Engineer who enjoys building data solutions and solving technical problems. This role is ideal for someone who wants to develop expertise in cloud-based data platforms, data integration, database development, and software engineering practices. You will work with senior engineers to design, build, test, and support data pipelines, databases, and APIs that power business applications and analytics. Success in this role requires strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, ownership, and a willingness to continuously learn.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain data pipelines that move and transform data across systems.
  • Develop SQL database objects including tables, views, stored procedures, and functions.
  • Write Python code for automation, data processing, and operational tooling.
  • Integrate applications and services using APIs and structured data formats such as JSON.
  • Troubleshoot data issues and investigate production incidents.
  • Perform data validation, reconciliation, and root cause analysis.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices.
  • Create technical documentation and support operational readiness.
  • Work with product owners, analysts, and developers to understand requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve performance, reliability, and maintainability.

Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of experience in data engineering, software development, analytics engineering, or a related field.
  • Recent graduate or early-career engineer with a strong technical foundation.
  • Demonstrated ability to build personal, academic, or professional technical projects.
  • Passion for problem solving, automation, and engineering excellence.
  • Strong SQL fundamentals.
  • Working knowledge of Python.
  • Understanding of relational databases and data modelling.
  • Familiarity with ETL/ELT concepts and data integration patterns.
  • Basic understanding of APIs and JSON.
  • Experience with Git or other source control systems.
  • Ability to write clean, maintainable, and reusable code.

Nice to Have Experience:

  • Cloud platform experience (Azure preferred).
  • Azure SQL Database.
  • Azure Data Factory or similar integration tools.
  • CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Data warehousing and dimensional modelling concepts.
  • Monitoring, logging, and operational support exposure.
