Our client, a leading company in electric motor and mechanical repair services is looking for a Fulltime and Direct Hire Leadhand to join their team in Calgary, AB.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee daily shop floor operations for a team of technicians, including work allocation, prioritization, and troubleshooting
Perform hands-on work on complex repairs, including:
AC/DC motor rewinding (random and form coil)
DC motor armature and field repairs
Diagnostic teardowns and equipment assessments
Conduct quality inspections and testing and ensure proper documentation
Support quoting by scoping jobs, identifying repair requirements, and assisting with cost and timeline estimates
Train and mentor junior technicians and apprentices
Communicate directly with customers regarding repair findings, options, timelines, and costs
Ensure accurate daily time tracking across the team using digital systems
Manage parts inventory and coordinate with suppliers
Promote and enforce safety standards, including PPE, lockout/tagout, and 5S practices
Provide weekly KPI updates to leadership on production status, bottlenecks, and improvement initiatives
Qualifications
Journeyperson Electric Motor Systems Technician (Red Seal preferred) or minimum 8+ years of hands-on experience in motor repair and rewinding
Strong experience with both AC and DC motors (rewinding, mechanical repair, and testing is required)
Ability to read and interpret winding data sheets, electrical schematics, and connection diagrams independently
Proven leadership ability or readiness to step into a leadership role
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
Excellent communication skills, including customer-facing interactions
Knowledge of industry standards (e.g., EASA or equivalent)
Experience with VFD-rated insulation systems, form-coil winding, or large motors.
