Job Title: Salesforce Marketing Cloud Developer

Location: Greater Toronto Area

Contract Duration: 6 months to start – strong chance to extend or convert to FTE

Our client is seeking a Salesforce Marketing Cloud Developer, responsible for designing, building, testing, and supporting scalable, compliant, and data‑driven customer journeys using Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC). This role owns the end‑to‑end lifecycle of SFMC solutions—from development through QA, UAT support, and production validation. The role partners closely with Marketing, Salesforce Sales Cloud, QA, Data & Analytics, and Integration teams to ensure all customer communications are technically sound, thoroughly tested, compliant (CASL), and production‑ready across email and SMS channels.

Responsibilities:

Salesforce Marketing Cloud Development

  • Design, build, and maintain customer journeys using Journey Builder (email, SMS, transactional and lifecycle journeys).
  • Develop and manage automations using Automation Studio (SQL queries, filters, scripts, data refresh logic).
  • Build dynamic and personalized email templates using AMPscript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Configure and manage Data Extensions, Contact Builder attributes, subscriber models, and data relationships.
  • Create and maintain Sender Profiles, Delivery Profiles, Send Classifications, publication lists, and suppression logic.

Salesforce Integration & Data Management

  • Implement and support Marketing Cloud Connect between Salesforce Sales Cloud and SFMC.
  • Work with Salesforce Campaigns and Campaign Members to support traceable, auditable marketing execution.
  • Partner with Data & Integration teams on data ingestion patterns (APIs, Azure, synchronized data sources).
  • Enforce consistent Subscriber Key strategy (Salesforce Contact/Lead ID) to prevent duplication and consent risks.

QA, Testing & Validation (Core Responsibility)

  • Own functional testing of SFMC solutions, including journeys, automations, emails, and SMS.
  • Validate:
    • Data accuracy and segmentation logic
    • Personalization and AMPscript output
    • Entry/exit criteria and decision splits
    • Timing, throttling, and re‑entry logic
  • Perform email rendering and deliverability testing using tools such as Litmus or Email on Acid.
  • Support UAT execution, including test scenario creation, defect triage, and fix validation.
  • Partner with QA teams to explain expected outcomes, data dependencies, and journey logic.
  • Conduct pre‑production validation and post‑deployment smoke testing.
  • Identify and proactively resolve defects, edge cases, and data quality issues before go‑live.

Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure all journeys and communications comply with CASL and consent management requirements.
  • Validate unsubscribe handling, preference management, and suppression logic during testing.
  • Participate in design reviews, architectural checkpoints, and governance forums.
  • Identify and remediate technical debt (legacy SQL, manual processes, fragile automations).

Monitoring, Support & Optimization

  • Monitor journeys and automations for failures, delays, or data issues.
  • Support incident triage and root‑cause analysis for production issues.
  • Optimize journeys for performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Support reporting and performance analysis using SQL data views and analytics tools.

Agile Delivery & Collaboration

  • Work within Agile / Scrum teams, participating in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and demos.
  • Contribute to Azure DevOps (ADO) work items, including development tasks, QA tasks, and defect tracking.
  • Collaborate closely with Marketing, Product Owners, QA, Architects, and Integration teams.
  • Produce clear technical documentation, test evidence, and operational runbooks.

Experience:

  • 5+ years of hands‑on experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud
  • Strong proficiency in:
    • Journey Builder
    • Automation Studio
    • Email Studio
    • Contact Builder
  • Advanced AMPscript and SQL
  • Strong HTML/CSS for email development
  • Experience with Marketing Cloud Connect and Sales Cloud integration
  • Strong understanding of SFMC data models, subscriber keys, and consent management
  • Experience performing functional testing of SFMC journeys and automations
  • Hands‑on experience with email rendering and validation tools (Litmus, Email on Acid)
  • Ability to design and execute UAT scenarios
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify edge cases and data issues
  • Experience validating compliance, unsubscribe logic, and preference management

Nice‑to‑Have Skills:

  • Salesforce Marketing Cloud certifications
  • Experience with SMS and transactional messaging
  • Exposure to Azure Data Factory or enterprise integration patterns
  • Experience in regulated environments (privacy, consent, compliance)
  • Experience modernizing legacy SFMC implementations or reducing vendor dependency
