Job Description

Our client is a leading player in the retail space, leveraging technology to enhance customer experience, optimize operations, and drive digital transformation. They are currently looking for a skilled Backend Developer to support their engineering team in building scalable, high-performance backend systems for their online and in-store platforms. THIS IS A HYBRID ROLE 3 DAYS PER WEEK BASED OUT OF TORONTO. 

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain backend services that support retail operations including e-commerce, inventory, and customer platforms

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., product, frontend, DevOps) to design and deliver new features

• Build and integrate APIs for payment gateways, order fulfillment, and third-party services

• Ensure security and compliance best practices are followed, especially around user data and payment processing

• Contribute to backend architecture improvements and scalability initiatives

• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement fixes

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• 3+ years of backend development experience in a high-transaction or customer-facing environment

• Strong programming skills in Node.js, Python, Java, or C#/.NET

• Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs; knowledge of GraphQL is a plus

• Familiarity with retail-specific systems such as POS, ERP, or order management platforms is a bonus

• Solid experience with SQL/NoSQL databases like PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDB

• Experience working in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

• Knowledge of containerization tools such as Docker and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes
