Position Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to manage and evolve our Research IT services. This role is critical in enabling cutting-edge scientific discovery through robust infrastructure, data systems, and collaborative partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Define and guide the direction of Research IT to align with scientific and institutional priorities.
  • Infrastructure Oversight: Manage the design, implementation, and performance of data storage, computing environments, and research data pipelines.
  • Technology Innovation: Assess and adopt emerging tools and technologies that support AI, advanced analytics, data capture, and data lifecycle management.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and support a team of technical experts to ensure continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Operational Excellence: Drive process improvements, implement best practices, and enhance system efficiency and reliability.
  • Cybersecurity & Compliance: Uphold high standards of data security, integrity, and regulatory compliance across all systems.
  • Collaboration & Engagement: Work closely with researchers, departments, and external partners to understand needs and deliver tailored IT solutions.
  • Vendor & Budget Management: Oversee procurement, vendor relationships, and budget planning to ensure cost-effective and value-driven outcomes.
  • Reporting & Communication: Keep leadership informed through clear reporting on infrastructure performance, key initiatives, and milestones.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Health Informatics, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience leading research IT, data infrastructure, or technical operations in a scientific or academic environment.
  • Strong understanding of scientific data platforms, compute/storage systems, and cloud or on-prem infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML environments, high-throughput data pipelines, or data-intensive research workflows.
  • Experience with HPC is an asset but not required.
  • Proven project management skills with a track record of delivering complex IT projects.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of data governance, security standards, and research data compliance frameworks.
