Our rapidly growing property management client is seeking a Senior Property Accountant to join their dynamic team on a permanent basis. This role offers the chance to work in an exceptional office environment with a fun, collaborative staff while contributing to a thriving organization.

Position Overview:
Reporting directly to the Accounting Manager, the Senior Property Accountant will manage full-cycle accounting responsibilities for a dedicated portfolio of properties and corporate entities. The role involves supporting the property operations and finance teams while contributing to the company’s ongoing growth in real estate asset management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee full-cycle property accounting for a portfolio of properties and corporate entities.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial and management reports.
  • Maintain and oversee the general ledger for properties and corporate entities.
  • Perform month-end processes, including accruals, prepayments, property taxes, deferred financing costs, and intercompany transactions.
  • Post journal entries for asset acquisitions, mortgage refinancing, and property acquisitions or dispositions.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts, including bank accounts and credit cards.
  • Handle accounts receivable duties, such as processing payments, intercompany invoicing, and tenant transaction recording.
  • Assist accounts payable with property-related expenses.
  • Implement accounting changes and support process improvement initiatives.
  • File and process HST returns within CRA deadlines.
  • Participate in special projects and provide ad hoc support as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of accounting experience, ideally in the real estate or fund management sectors.
  • Professional Accounting Designation (CPA or in-progress) is an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team-oriented mindset with a positive attitude and flexibility to meet challenges.
