Our client a primary regulatory body that oversees securities and financial markets in the province of Ontario, Canada is looking to hire a Manager, of Finance to oversee revenue and payable processing while guiding accounts receivable and payable teams. 

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manages a team of 4 staff, directly overseeing revenue and payables processing.
  • Responsible for ensuring effective preventative and detective controls over the revenues, payables, and payments functions; and ensuring appropriate control over funds processes.
  • Lead finance-related projects as they arise and provide internal control-related guidance to ensure that proper controls are in place.
  • Manage the Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR) program to annually assess the sufficiency and effectiveness of financial controls. The role will report on audit findings with the recommendation to the Audit and Finance Committee. The role will also lead the design and implementation of process changes, involving other team members as needed.
  • Responsible for the preparation of annual IFRS compliant financial statements including note disclosure and preparation of the Management Discussion and Analysis.
  • Assist the Controller in overseeing the month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing procedures.
  • Monitor and analyze new accounting standards, policies and trends to ensure that the financial statements, processes and procedures are up to date and follow the best practices available. Manage the roll out of these new standards, including analyzing impacts and changes expected in the financial statements as a result of the new accounting standard.
  • Full responsibility to ensure the accuracy of Funds Held Pursuant to Settlements and Sanction Orders; suggest improvements to processes for efficiencies; report on activities to the Manager. 
  • Executive Management team, the Audit and Finance Committee and Board every quarter.
  • Assist the organization in managing uses of Funds Held Under Settlements and Sanction Orders as authorized by the Securities Commission Act.
  • Brief the Controller concerning how the financial reporting and the internal controls will change and how this will impact the organization, both in accounting and operational terms, and to make recommendations for improvements where appropriate.
Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA designation, Chartered Accountant program preferred. Member is in good standing with the Institute.
  • 8+ years of direct experience in an accounting, auditing or finance role
  • Has a minimum of five years of public accounting experience in the preparation or review of financial statements and note disclosures, with two years specifically dealing with the interpretation and application of IFRS.
  • Having an understanding of the Canadian and international securities environment and how regulatory actions impact stakeholders is a strong asset.
