Job Description

We are thrilled to partner with a national non-profit group dedicated to transforming Indigenous medical education and promoting the delivery of culturally safe care.

 

We're searching for a Privacy & Data Manager with extensive experience advocating for data security, ensuring compliance with regulations, and safeguarding sensitive information, particularly Indigenous data.

This full-time term position runs until March 2028 and can be performed remotely. It includes a competitive benefits package with three weeks of vacation, comprehensive benefits coverage, and the option to contribute to a pension plan. Preference may be given to individuals who identify as First Nations, Inuit or Métis. However, this role is open to all qualified candidates.

 

What you'll do:

  • Lead Privacy Strategy: Develop and implement comprehensive data privacy strategies to ensure compliance with Canadian privacy laws and Indigenous data sovereignty requirements.
  • Manage Data Agreements: Oversee data agreements with partners and collaborators, ensuring data is handled responsibly.
  • Respond to Data Requests: Manage data subject access requests, including inquiries and data deletion requests.
  • Educate Stakeholders: Train and educate staff, leadership, and Indigenous communities on data privacy practices.
  • Conduct Data Analysis: Lead data research and analysis to identify risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain Data Integrity: Oversee the Indigenous Database to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to data retention policies.
  • Monitor & Audit: Participate in data privacy audits and assessments to maintain compliance.
  • Investigate & Mitigate Risks: Conduct privacy impact assessments and investigate potential breaches to identify and mitigate risks.

 

Who you are:

  • Privacy Expert: Minimum of 5 years of experience in data privacy development and management.
  • Compliance Champion: Deep understanding of Canadian privacy laws, Indigenous data sovereignty, and compliance frameworks.
  • Security Savvy: Proven ability to monitor data systems, conduct risk assessments, and develop security protocols.
  • Communication Master: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, adept at explaining complex data insights to non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborative Leader: Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
