We are seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Advisor to join our clients payroll operations team. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with in-depth knowledge of payroll processes, tax regulations, and compliance standards. The ideal candidate will play a key role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing while providing strategic insights and support to improve payroll systems and processes.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Oversee the bi-weekly payroll process, ensuring accurate employee payments and compliance with statutory regulations.
- Perform payroll-related reconciliations, audits, and generate reports, including year-end filings such as T4s and Relevé 1 forms.
- Manage garnishments, vacation accruals, and statutory deductions, ensuring accurate and compliant processing.
- Ensure payroll systems are up-to-date; collaborate with IT and vendors to identify and resolve technical issues.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly reports, including tracking sick leave and vacation trends.
- Evaluate current payroll processes, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing more efficient workflows.
- Support system updates, testing, and data integration efforts to ensure seamless functionality and compliance.
- Serve as the primary contact for escalated payroll and benefits issues, ensuring timely and accurate resolution.
Qualifications and Skills
- Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) or Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) designation is required.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Payroll, Human Resources, or Business Administration.
- At least 3 years of senior payroll experience, including processing multi-jurisdictional and unionized payrolls.
- Experience running high volume payroll (800+)
- Hands-on experience in gross-to-net payroll calculations and in-house payroll operations.
- Strong understanding of federal and provincial payroll legislation, taxation requirements, and statutory reporting.
- High-level expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Must hold or be able to obtain a Secret-level Security Clearance within 6 months of hire.
