Job Description
Our client, a leader in the logistics and trucking industry, is seeking a General Accountant to provide essential support within the Finance and Accounting departments. This role involves preparing various reports and analyses, ensuring data validation and reconciliation, and actively participating in monthly financial close processes, with occasional task rotations within the team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare journal entries and execute other activities related to month-end closings.
- Complete timely balance sheet reconciliations, including banks.
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual closings, ensuring accuracy.
- Prepare month-end financial reports (Income Statement and Balance Sheet) and ensure accuracy in reporting.
- Analyze financial results, identify variances, and explain root causes.
- Prepare monthly HST returns and coordinate with CRA for inquiries.
- Maintain comprehensive records of all corporate documents, supporting files, and backups.
- Assist with external audits, keeping accurate monthly and annual records.
- Participate in other ad hoc duties as required.
- Accurately create and send invoices and billing materials on time.
- Coordinate with warehouse and operations teams to ensure all services and products are billed accurately.
- Address customer and internal billing inquiries as needed.
- Reconcile customer accounts, addressing discrepancies such as incorrect rates or missing information.
- Generate regular billing activity reports for management, tracking trends and any issues.
- Continuously assess and recommend improvements to billing processes for greater efficiency.
Skills and Competencies:
- Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
- 2-3 years of experience with general ledger functions and billing processes.
- Experience in the transportation or logistics industry is a plus.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including proficiency with lookups and pivot tables.
- Familiarity with Truckmate, Info Plus, or similar ERP systems is advantageous.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Progress toward a CPA or CMA designation is beneficial but not required.
