Job Description
Our client, a growing specialty finance company in the DFW Metroplex, is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to support its secured commercial lending operations.
This is a practical, business-facing legal role for an attorney with experience in secured lending, creditor rights, bankruptcy, collateral recovery, litigation management, and lender-side enforcement matters. The company is looking to bring more legal and recovery-related work in-house while continuing to use outside counsel on select matters.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a lean environment, partnering closely with leadership and business teams, and handling both higher-level legal judgment and hands-on execution. This is a strong opportunity for an attorney who enjoys being close to the business and wants to make a direct impact on legal process, recovery outcomes, and outside counsel management.
Responsibilities
- Support legal matters related to the company’s secured commercial lending platform
- Review and improve loan, security, guaranty, and related documentation
- Advise internal teams on collateral protection, secured transactions, funding-related risk, and recovery matters
- Assist with UCC lien perfection, priority, maintenance, and related secured lending issues
- Support legal strategy related to borrower defaults, collateral recovery, repossession, liquidation, deficiency claims, and enforcement matters
- Help evaluate and enforce personal guarantees and other credit support
- Participate in workout, restructuring, settlement, and recovery discussions
- Handle or manage creditor-side bankruptcy matters, including Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 proceedings
- Manage creditor-side litigation matters, including collateral disputes, deficiency claims, summary judgment matters, and related enforcement actions
- Coordinate with outside counsel when needed while helping control costs, timelines, and legal strategy
- Work closely with leadership, finance, credit, operations, and recovery teams to provide practical legal guidance
- Help develop templates, processes, playbooks, and workflows to support internal legal and recovery functions
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
- Licensed to practice law, with Texas licensure preferred
- Approximately 5 to 10 years of relevant legal experience
- Experience with secured lending, commercial finance, creditor rights, bankruptcy, collateral enforcement, or lender-side litigation
- Working knowledge of UCC Article 9 and secured transactions
- Experience handling or managing litigation involving lenders, creditors, collateral, deficiency claims, recovery matters, or borrower defaults
- Ability to work directly with business teams in a practical, responsive, and hands-on manner
- Strong communication, judgment, organization, and problem-solving skills
