About the Opportunity:
Our client is a construction management firm supporting a large public-sector capital improvement program in Los Angeles. They are seeking a Project Accountant II to support financial administration, invoice processing, accounts payable activities, and project accounting functions across a major capital construction program.
This role is responsible for reviewing invoices, processing financial transactions, supporting project accounting activities, maintaining financial records, reconciling accounts, and assisting with financial reporting and analysis. The position works closely with finance, accounting, project management, consultants, contractors, and campus stakeholders to ensure accurate financial tracking and compliance with program requirements.
This role supports bond-funded capital construction and modernization projects within a large educational infrastructure program environment.
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Los Angeles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review project invoices and encumbrances and process transactions in accordance with accounting procedures.
- Assist finance and accounting teams with analysis of ongoing program financial activity.
- Identify discrepancies or inconsistencies in invoice documentation and facilitate timely resolution.
- Review and verify invoice and encumbrance entries within PMIS systems and ensure supporting documentation is complete.
- Support resolution of financial integration issues between project management and accounting systems.
- Evaluate payment requests for compliance with program requirements and funding guidelines.
- Reconcile financial accounts and escrow bank statements.
- Prepare and process journal entries, debit memos, and credit memos.
- Assist with identifying accounting errors and developing solutions to minimize recurring discrepancies.
- Develop reports and support financial transparency initiatives related to program expenditures.
- Communicate with contractors, consultants, vendors, and project stakeholders regarding invoice and expenditure matters.
- Coordinate with internal departments to resolve invoice processing issues and obtain required approvals.
- Support financial reporting, expenditure tracking, and project accounting activities.
- Perform additional accounting and financial administration duties as required.
Mandatory Requirements:

- Minimum 1+ year of professional experience in invoice processing, accounts payable, project accounting, or related accounting functions.
- Associate’s degree or college certificate in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for education requirements.
- Experience working with accounting software, business enterprise systems, or financial management platforms.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Excel and Word.
- Ability to perform financial analysis, historical trend analysis, and identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Ability to create, analyze, and interpret financial reports.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work full-time on-site in Los Angeles.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
- Experience supporting construction, capital projects, public-sector programs, or project accounting environments.
- Experience with accounts payable, invoice processing, financial reconciliations, and expenditure tracking.
- Experience with PMIS systems such as Proliance, accounting platforms, or ERP systems.
- Experience working with contractors, consultants, and project teams.
- Knowledge of project accounting, construction accounting, or capital program financial controls.
