About the Opportunity:

Our client is a construction management firm supporting a large public-sector capital improvement program in Los Angeles. They are seeking a Project Engineer III – Sustainability to support the planning, design, construction, commissioning, and delivery of sustainability-focused capital improvement projects.

This role is responsible for providing technical and engineering support to project management and construction management teams while supporting sustainability initiatives across a portfolio of capital construction and modernization projects. The position works closely with project teams, contractors, architects, engineers, consultants, and stakeholders to support project execution, construction administration, risk management, and sustainability objectives.

This role supports bond-funded capital construction, modernization, and sustainability projects within a large educational infrastructure program environment.

This is a full-time, on-site role based in Los Angeles.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical and engineering support to Project Managers, Construction Managers, and project teams.
  • Coordinate with project teams, contractors, architects, engineers, inspectors, consultants, and stakeholders throughout project delivery.
  • Participate in design meetings, construction meetings, and project coordination activities.
  • Conduct field reviews to verify compliance with project specifications, plans, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Review and interpret construction drawings, plans, specifications, and shop drawings.
  • Support preparation of correspondence, reports, procedures, guidelines, and project documentation.
  • Assist with development of project status reports, progress reports, and project tracking documentation.
  • Review, estimate, negotiate, and process change orders, field orders, and construction modifications.
  • Review and administer construction and professional services contracts.
  • Manage contractor and consultant activities including invoice review and approval support.
  • Assess project risks and support development of mitigation strategies and risk registers.
  • Support resolution of construction, design, and coordination issues.
  • Review submittals, RFIs, Construction Change Documents, and related project documentation.
  • Prepare project scopes of work, procurement support documents, and consultant solicitation materials.
  • Maintain project records and documentation throughout the project lifecycle.


Mandatory Requirements:

(Candidates must meet all requirements)

  • Minimum 7+ years of professional experience in a construction, engineering, project engineering, or construction management role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field. Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for education requirements.
  • Experience supporting capital construction, modernization, renovation, or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience reviewing construction plans, specifications, shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
  • Experience coordinating contractors, consultants, architects, engineers, and project stakeholders.
  • Strong knowledge of construction administration, project coordination, contract administration, and project documentation processes.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment and take initiative.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced project environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work full-time on-site in Los Angeles.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting sustainability-focused projects including:
    • Energy Information Systems (EIS)
    • Energy-efficient LED lighting projects
    • Building Management Systems (BMS)
    • Central Plant Decarbonization initiatives
    • Chiller plant modernization projects
    • Renewable Energy systems
    • Solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems
    • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
    • Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS)
  • Experience supporting educational, public-sector, or institutional capital improvement programs.
  • Experience with commissioning, sustainability initiatives, energy efficiency projects, or decarbonization programs.
  • Knowledge of DSA requirements and California public-sector construction environments.
  • Professional certifications such as LEED, PMP, PE, CCM, or similar credentials.
