Controller – Family-Owned Construction Materials Supplier

Our client is a growing, family-owned supplier of aggregate materials serving the construction industry for 75+ years. They’ve built their reputation on reliability, a hands-on operating style, and a strong, family-oriented culture. They are seeking a Controller to lead all financial operations, oversee day‑to‑day accounting and administrative activities, and serve as a trusted advisor to ownership.

This role is ideal for a practical, detail‑driven accounting leader who enjoys working in a small office environment, balancing strategic financial oversight with occasional involvement in general office and administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the monthly close process across multiple entities
• Prepare accurate monthly financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow)
• Maintain general ledger integrity and perform account reconciliations for multiple companies
• Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable
• Process weekly payroll
• Provide operational financial insights related to inventory and cost of goods sold
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures
• Coordinate with external CPAs, unions, and government agencies on tax filings and compliance requirements

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance or Related Field
• Experience as a Senior Accountant, Accounting Manager, or Controller
• Background working with multi‑entity or owner‑operated businesses
• Strong knowledge of general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, tax, and banking
• Experience in construction, manufacturing, or other trade‑based industries
