Tax Paralegal / Fiduciary Accountant – Trusts & Estates

A respected professional services organization in Detroit is seeking a Tax Paralegal / Fiduciary Accountant to support its Trusts & Estates practice. This role blends legal support, financial analysis, and tax‑related work, offering the opportunity to handle meaningful, detail‑driven matters involving estates, trusts, and wealth‑transfer planning. The ideal candidate enjoys working with numbers, navigating complex estate files, and collaborating closely with attorneys and clients.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare a range of estate, gift, and fiduciary tax filings in accordance with federal and state requirements
- Maintain and reconcile financial records for trusts and estates, including tax data, transaction histories, and year‑end summaries
- Draft and review estate and trust accountings, ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Assist with advanced estate planning calculations and support wealth‑transfer strategies
- Manage ongoing file and record maintenance, updating trust and estate information as cases progress
- Support estate administration, including probate‑related documentation, asset organization, and beneficiary distributions
- Communicate with tax authorities to address notices, questions, or audit‑related correspondence
- Collaborate with attorneys, CPAs, and internal team members to ensure smooth workflow and timely deliverables
Minimum Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in trusts & estates, fiduciary accounting, or tax preparation within a law firm, CPA firm, or financial institution
- Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certificate preferred
- CPA or Enrolled Agent credential is a plus
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and apply tax concepts
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
- Professional, collaborative, and able to build strong working relationships with attorneys, clients, and internal staff
