About the Opportunity
Our client is a construction management firm supporting a major aviation capital improvement program in Los Angeles. They are seeking a Design Manager III to oversee architectural and engineering design activities across a large, complex terminal refresh and modernization initiative.
This is a full-time, 100% on-site leadership role within a high-visibility public infrastructure environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee design delivery across architectural, structural, MEP, civil, utilities, and IT disciplines
- Enforce architectural and engineering review procedures and standards
- Lead design review and comment resolution processes
- Manage scope tracking and ensure alignment with program requirements
- Coordinate permitting activities and agency approvals
- Monitor BIM production in accordance with program standards and execution plans
- Provide technical oversight of change management and scope modifications
- Facilitate coordination between project teams, designers, and subject matter experts
- Support executive briefings, board presentations, and stakeholder meetings
- Ensure design quality, consistency, and compliance across all project components
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
(Applicants must meet ALL of the following)
Experience
- Minimum 15 years of experience managing design of large, complex building, utilities, or infrastructure projects
- Experience managing design for projects exceeding $100 million in value
- Experience on aviation or complex transportation facilities projects
- Experience with multiple delivery methods including Design-Bid-Build, CMAR, and Design-Build
Education
Technical Requirements
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam
- Familiarity with Project Management Information Systems
- Working knowledge of CAD or Revit preferred
Availability
- Ability to work full-time, on-site in Los Angeles
- Flexibility for extended hours or weekend work as required
Preferred Qualifications (Not mandatory)
- Licensed Architect or Professional Engineer
- Experience managing BIM implementation strategies
- Experience coordinating across multiple concurrent aviation programs
Required Skills
- Strong design governance and quality control capability
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to manage multidisciplinary design teams
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational discipline
- Comfortable operating in high-visibility, deadline-driven environments
