Our longtime, trusted, and growing client is seeking a Senior Billing Specialist to join their Indianapolis office. This is a newly created role driven by continued growth within the firm and its revenue operations team. The Senior Billing Specialist will play a key role in ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant client invoicing while also serving as a mentor and resource to junior billing staff.
This position partners closely with attorneys, legal assistants, and accounting leadership and is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, detail-oriented, and collaborative environment.
Generate and process prebills in accordance with firm procedures and deadlines
Interpret and apply complex billing instructions, seeking clarification as needed
Ensure compliance with client billing guidelines, fee agreements, and firm policies
Submit invoices accurately and timely, including ebilling submissions
Maintain and update billing instructions and client details within the accounting system
Troubleshoot and resolve billing discrepancies using available tools and resources
Collaborate with attorneys, legal assistants, and accounting team members in support of revenue operations
Respond to requests for billing history, payment status, and time/cost entry details
Maintain strict confidentiality of firm and client information
Take ownership of complex billing scenarios and assist in establishing best practices
Contribute to process improvements and special initiatives
Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to junior billing staff
5+ years of legal billing experience, including advanced ebilling
Strong leadership, mentoring, and problem-solving abilities
Advanced knowledge of ebilling vendor requirements and LEDES file formats
Experience with complex billing arrangements (split billing, multi-payor, appeals, guideline compliance)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail
Strong numerical and analytical skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
Comfortable working in a hybrid environment, including use of Zoom
Experience with SurePoint or Aderant legal management systems
College coursework or degree in accounting or a related field (or equivalent experience)
