Chief Engineer – Marine Vessel Operations (Travel Rotation 3 Weeks On/Off)
Location: Open – Can live anywhere in the U.S. (100% travel)
Schedule: 3 Weeks On / 3 Weeks Off Rotation
Salary: $115,000–$125,000 per year + performance bonus

About the Role
We’re looking for a skilled Chief Engineer to oversee vessel machinery, propulsion systems, and onboard maintenance for large marine operations. This is a hands-on, high-responsibility position for professionals passionate about marine engineering, vessel safety, and offshore operations.
This role offers a rotational schedule (3 weeks on / 3 weeks off) and allows you to live anywhere in the U.S. while working on nationwide marine projects. Lodging, transportation, and a daily per diem are provided during assignments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all engine room operations and maintenance on dredge or marine vessels.
- Ensure compliance with ABS, USCG, and internal maintenance and safety
- standards.
- Supervise engineering crews, ensuring proper documentation and safe operating procedures.
- Conduct safety inspections, emergency drills, and preventive maintenance tasks.
- Monitor propulsion, hydraulic, electrical, and auxiliary systems for performance and reliability.
- Partner with shoreside maintenance and shipyard teams to plan and execute repair projects.
- Promote a proactive, “Incident and Injury Free” safety culture at all times.
Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
- Valid Driver’s License and TWIC Card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) – or ability to obtain one.
- Ability to travel 100% nationwide and work a 3-weeks-on / 3-weeks-off rotation schedule.
Preferred:
- Valid USCG Chief Engineer License and/or Tankerman PIC Certificate.
- Experience with EMD and Caterpillar engines, hydraulics, and electrical troubleshooting.
- Prior experience with dredging, offshore construction, or vessel maintenance operations.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of diesel propulsion, hydraulic systems, and electrical control systems.
- Proven leadership and mentoring skills in technical environments.
- Excellent communication and decision-making abilities under pressure.
