Role Overview

The Design Director provides strategic design leadership across the organization, driving innovation, maintaining the highest standards of quality, and fostering a collaborative culture. This role ensures consistency in design excellence while actively contributing to business development and client success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Champion and advocate for design quality, creativity, and innovation in alignment with client goals and project vision.

  • Lead and mentor a team of designers, fostering professional growth and development.

  • Oversee design presentations and monitor project development to ensure firmwide consistency and excellence.

  • Provide design direction and guidance throughout all project phases.

  • Maintain deep knowledge of architectural practice, building materials, construction methods, engineering integration, and codes/costs.

  • Serve as a thought leader in the design community through participation in professional organizations, outreach, and mentorship.

  • Collaborate with internal design leaders to strengthen design culture and advance innovative practices.

  • Integrate emerging technologies and tools into the design process to enhance outcomes.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of firmwide design standards and guidelines.

  • Support marketing and business development efforts with strong design representation.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15 years of professional experience.

  • Bachelor of Architecture required; advanced degree preferred.

  • Registered Architect (NCARB).

  • LEED AP accreditation preferred.

  • Experience in corporate, educational, and/or healthcare sectors preferred.

  • Strong commitment to client service and design excellence.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines while maintaining quality.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proficiency with design tools such as Revit, Rhino, SketchUp, Generative AI, etc.

  • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Self-motivated and quality-driven with the ability to engage at all levels of client and stakeholder interaction.
