Product Engineer - Battery
The Product Engineer is a key member of the product development team, responsible for the design, development, validation, and release of custom lithium-ion battery modules and packs for industrial and military applications. This role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and customers to deliver innovative products that meet or exceed technical and business goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the product development lifecycle, including requirements definition, design reviews, and validation to ensure all stakeholder needs are met.
Drive compliance with customer requirements throughout the product development process.
Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams to ensure a cohesive and complete product design.
Develop and maintain design documentation, including 3D models, drawings, schematics, and bills of materials (BOMs).
Establish and manage specifications for components, assemblies, and final products.
Oversee supplier evaluation, prototype development, and all design and production validation testing.
Partner with Business Development to define product requirements and secure customer approvals.
Champion continuous improvement by identifying and resolving issues to mitigate risk and prevent failure recurrence.
Develop cost and timing estimates for new product development proposals.
Management Responsibilities:
May provide direction to 1-2 direct reports within a product-focused development team.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Systems Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
A minimum of 3 years of experience in product development and design for manufacturing.
At least 1 year of experience in battery systems projects and battery packs.
Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
Experience with Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and Design Verification Plan and Report (DVP&R).
Strong understanding of root cause analysis and/or Design for Six Sigma methodologies.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in a relevant engineering field.
Experience with data analysis tools such as Python or MATLAB.
Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for thermal, vibration, and shock analysis.
Ability to interpret electrical schematics and diagnose system issues.
In-depth understanding of Battery Management System (BMS) principles and architecture.
