With steady growth and expanding operations, they are seeking a Materials Manager to lead procurement, inventory, and materials handling for a high-performance production environment.
Role Overview
As the Materials Management Organization Manager, you will oversee the full lifecycle of physical resource acquisition and internal flow—from sourcing and procurement through inventory, kitting, and shop floor delivery. You’ll lead a small but growing team, build vendor relationships, support supply chain reliability, and help streamline purchasing operations through strategy and systems oversight. This role is ideal for a procurement leader with a sharp eye for cost, quality, and efficiency, and someone who thrives in a hands-on, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute purchasing strategies aligned with production demands
- Manage procurement activities across multiple categories of equipment, goods, and services
- Lead vendor negotiations and maintain optimal procurement terms
- Analyze costs, delivery times, and supplier quality to drive cost-effective decisions
- Identify and onboard new suppliers that align with quality, cost, and delivery goals
- Forecast material needs and ensure just-in-time availability to support production
- Oversee receiving, inventory stocking, kitting, and delivery to the shop floor
- Collaborate with finance and ERP teams to maintain accurate inventory and transaction records
- Monitor, maintain, and improve ERP system accuracy for all materials functions
- Track key metrics to reduce expenses and increase operational efficiency
- Supervise buyers and inventory staff, ensuring high performance and alignment with goals
- Support strategic decision-making such as make-vs-buy analysis
- Eliminate shortages and issuing errors that delay production
Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or equivalent experience
- Proven experience in purchasing, supply chain, or materials management leadership roles
- Strong negotiation, vendor management, and contract execution skills
- Familiarity with ERP systems and inventory control tools
- Data-driven decision-making ability with strong analytical skills
- Experience managing receiving, inventory, and production floor support operations
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities
- U.S. Citizenship (required due to client and regulatory needs)
- Willingness to relocate to rural Montana (relocation support provided)
