Position Overview
A leading chemical manufacturing facility in the Greater Houston, TX area is seeking an experienced Senior Process Engineer to lead capital projects and process improvements within a dynamic plant environment. This role is responsible for the full lifecycle of new chemical unit projects—from design and procurement to construction and commissioning—while also driving optimization and efficiency of existing operations.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, technically strong, and thrives in cross-functional team settings with a deep commitment to safety and performance.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership:
Manage end-to-end capital project activities including design, procurement, construction, and startup.
Evaluate process alternatives to support business growth and optimize chemical tolling operations.
Oversee process design, contractor supervision, and QA/QC during implementation.
Process Optimization:
Support plant operations by leading PHA/HAZOP reviews and troubleshooting efforts.
Develop and implement engineering standards and process documentation.
Drive debottlenecking and throughput enhancement initiatives.
Collaboration & Compliance:
Coordinate with teams across disciplines (instrumentation, mechanical, automation, construction) to ensure project success.
Ensure all work complies with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
Technical Support:
Act as the lead process engineer on major projects and project engineer on smaller-scale initiatives.
Manage project scope, schedules, and budgets effectively.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering
10+ years of process/project engineering in a chemical plant
Proficiency in core chemical engineering principles (mass/energy balances, heat transfer, equipment sizing, etc.)
Strong background in process design, troubleshooting, P&ID development, and commissioning
Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and working with external consultants
Knowledge of PSM principles and PHA participation
Proficient with Aspen or ChemCad
Strong written and verbal communication
Preferred:
Master’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering
15+ years of industry experience
Familiarity with batch/semi-continuous processes and chemical unit operations (e.g., reactions, distillation, solids handling)
Experience in processes like Alkoxylation, Maleation, Esterification, or Amine-acid reactions
Experience developing site or corporate engineering standards
Knowledge of systems such as flares, oxidizers, and wastewater treatment
