Position Title: Project Manager – International Relations

Contract Duration: May 1, 2025 – April 30 2026 (1 year contract)

Salary & Benefits: $72,000-$90,000 plus comprehensive health & benefits package, 3 weeks vacation, statutory holidays, 2 weeks closure over Christmas.  

Location: Ottawa, ON

Work Model: Hybrid – 3 days per week onsite

The Project Manager – International Relations will lead an Indigenous-to-Indigenous capacity development project funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC). This initiative fosters the exchange of climate adaptation knowledge between indigenous communities in Canada and Indigenous Peoples abroad, co-creating culturally relevant, locally grounded climate solutions. Reporting to the Director, the Project Manager will oversee the planning, management, implementation, and monitoring of this initiative while ensuring meaningful and respectful engagement with Indigenous partners.

Key Responsibilities

• Project Leadership & Implementation
• Develop and execute project work plans, timelines, and budgets in alignment with funding agreements and organizational priorities.
• Ensure Indigenous-led best practices guide all project activities.
• Stakeholder & Partnership Management
• Foster strong relationships with all Governments and international Indigenous partners.
• Ensure engagement is respectful, culturally appropriate, and centered on Indigenous knowledge systems and protocols.
• Knowledge Exchange & Capacity Building
• Design and coordinate knowledge-sharing activities, workshops, and dialogue sessions.
• Facilitate collaboration between indigenous participants and international partners to exchange traditional ecological knowledge and climate adaptation strategies.
• Monitoring, Evaluation & Compliance
• Oversee reporting requirements, ensuring compliance with GAC contribution agreements.
• Develop narrative and financial reports and maintain thorough project documentation.

The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree in International Development, Project Management, Environmental Studies, Indigenous Studies, or a related field, though equivalent experience may be considered. They should have 3–5 years of experience in project development, ideally within international and/or Indigenous contexts, and a proven ability to manage complex projects with multiple deliverables, partners, and funding requirements. Experience working directly with Indigenous governments or organizations in Canada and/or internationally is essential, along with a strong understanding of Indigenous self-determination and rights frameworks. Prior experience with Global Affairs Canada (GAC)-funded projects is considered a strong asset. The candidate must possess in-depth knowledge of climate change impacts and adaptation strategies, particularly from an Indigenous perspective. They should demonstrate exceptional intercultural communication skills and diplomacy, with the ability to build and maintain respectful, reciprocal relationships with Indigenous Nations and Peoples. Strong organizational, financial management, and time management skills are required, along with excellent research, writing, and reporting abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, project management tools, and virtual collaboration platforms is necessary for success in this role. An understanding of indigenous culture, history, and the unique challenges faced by these communities is highly desirable. Spanish language knowledge is considered a strong asset but is not required.

The successful candidate must complete a clean Criminal Record Check with the Vulnerable Sector, be legally entitled to work in Canada, and be willing to travel nationally and internationally as required.
