Our Offer for you

  • Site: Suncor Base Plant, Fort McMurray, AB
  • Schedule: 11 days on, 3 days off, 10-hour days. Subject to extended shifts and overtime during turnaround.
  • Overtime: Subject to change per Union Collective Agreement.All hours worked on Saturday and Sunday are paid at double time 2.0x. All hours worked on Friday are paid at 1.5x overtime. Any work over ten hours per day is paid at double time 2.0x with applicable meal pay
  • Certified Journeyman Compensation: $55.35/hr, 10% Vac/Stat, $6.35/hr Union Pension, Health, Dental, and Vision Benefits. Subject to change per Union Collective Agreement.

Stuart Olson is seeking a dual-ticketed Electrical and Instrumentation professional for our client’s site in Fort McMurray, AB, with an April 2026 start date, on our turnaround team, working 11 days on, 3 days off.  Camp accommodation and Union Travel Benefits ($297 each way) are provided for non-locals travelling to Fort McMurray. However, preference is given to local candidates along with a $750 monthly Local Incentive Allowance.

 Responsibilities

  • Interpret and use appropriate CSA, ISA and API installation standards and practices.
  • Perform calibrations on devices and loop checks of control systems.
  • Measure, cut, and bend tubing in pneumatic control systems.
  • Select, install, calibrate, and check sensing, telemetering, and recording instrumentation and circuitry, and develop specifications for nonstandard apparatus according to engineering data, characteristics of equipment under test, and capabilities of procurable test apparatus.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance of test apparatus and peripheral equipment.
  • Operate test apparatus during test cycle to produce, regulate, and record effects of actual or simulated conditions such as vibration, stress, temperature, humidity, pressure, altitude, and acceleration.
  • Analyze and convert test data to a usable form and prepare graphs and written reports to translate test results.
  • Use computerized equipment and software to perform testing functions and produce graphs.
  • Follow procedures as defined in the CEC (Canadian Electrical Code)
  • Troubleshoot electrical equipment, including 120V-25KV control systems, HVAC systems, cathodic protection, Electrical Heat trace removal and reinstatement.
  • Energize and de-energize breakers and VFD’s. Perform regular switching orders
  • Troubleshoot VFD’s, UPS, MCC’s, EGEN Systems, PLC/SIS control systems
  • Program Multilin Relays, Devicenet, EHT.
  • Maintain, operate and perform monitoring on 480V-5kV MCC line-ups throughout the facility. 
  • Transformer monitoring and maintenance for dry and oil bath types.
  • Repair faulty equipment or systems.
  • Installation and removal of temporary power for turnaround.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance of test apparatus and peripheral equipment.
  • Operate test apparatus during test cycle to produce, regulate, and record effects of actual or simulated conditions such as vibration, stress, temperature, humidity, pressure, altitude, and acceleration.
  • Analyze and convert test data to a usable form and prepare graphs and written reports to translate test results.
  • Use computerized equipment and software to perform testing functions and produce graphs.
  • Other duties as requested by the Supervisor.
  • Understand and practice company policies and procedures.
  • Actively participate in our health and safety program. 

Working Conditions

  • This is a Union Job position, so you must be willing and able to enroll at Local 424 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, pay dues, and be dispatched to the work site
  • Working both indoors and outdoors in hot and cold weather conditions.
  • Working at heights.
  • Working in and around noise and dust.
  • Must be clean-shaven daily.
  • Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.

Qualifications

  • Journeyperson Ticket in both Electrical and Instrumentation, or a combination of Journeyperson ticket and apprenticeship, either in Electrical or Instrumentation.
  • CSTS 2020, must complete all required Client and Stuart Olson web-based orientation.
  • Training tickets:
    • Fall Protection
  • Pre-access Drug and Alcohol test

Physical Requirements

  • Physical ability to lift up to 50lbs; occasionally lift items weighing more than 50lbs. with assistance.
  • Stand or walk for long periods of time.
  • Use arms and hands to reach for, handle or manipulate objects.
  • Climb up and down ladders, scaffolds and other objects.
