Job Description

We have an exciting full-time permanent opportunity for an Instructional Designer & Trainer with one of our large-scale environment sector clients in Vaughan, ON. 

The Instructional Designer will play a crucial role in the design and development of our training materials and training programs. Working closely with subject matter experts, content developers, and other stakeholders, the Instructional Designer will design, develop, and implement instructional content that meets the needs of our target audience and aligns with our business training objectives. This role requires a creative thinker with a strong understanding of instructional design principles, learning theories, and instructional technologies.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify training needs, define learning objectives, project requirements, and desired outcomes
  • Analyze needs to determine effective learning solutions that address knowledge and/or performance gaps in the target audience
  • Conduct instructional research and analysis on learners and contexts.
  • Create engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances retention and transfer of knowledge including e-learning modules, videos, simulations, assessments, and other multimedia content.
  • Provide exercises and activities that enhance the learning process.
  • Develop criteria used to judge learner’s performance and develop assessment methods to measure effectiveness of courses/curriculum.
  • Facilitate and lead Pilot training and Train-the-Trainer sessions for various programs.
  • Maintain a central repository of content files and its publication on to the Learning Management System.
  • Apply Adult Learning principles to select optimal training delivery methods, including eLearning, Self Paced Training, Instructor-Led Training, Virtual Instructor-Led Training, or Micro-Learning.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage project timelines, and deliverables.
  • Communicate project progress and potential risks, devising action plans as necessary

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum of 2-5 years’ experience designing and managing the development of web-based, video based, or virtual learning preferably in a corporate or educational setting.
  • Knowledge and application of adult learning theory, curriculum planning, training needs analysis, instructional design, training methodologies, learning technologies and evaluation strategies.
  • Post-Secondary Diploma/Degree specialization in instructional design, educational technology, multimedia design, curriculum development or a related field highly valued.
  • Solid knowledge of course development software and at least one Learning Management System.
  • Must stay relevant to technology and should have the flexibility to adapt to the growing technology and market demands.
  • Proficiency with course authoring tools such as Articulate 360, Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office Suite, Video Editing Software such as Vyond, Camtasia and Learning Management Systems
  • Ability to create learning materials to include facilitator/instructor and participant manuals, assessments, certification plans, job aids and other documentation and follow up tools.
  • Experience in technical writing, graphic design or eLearning development is considered an asse
  • Fluency in French Language would be an asset.
