Job Description

We are currently recruiting for our client, a well-established retail organization located in Toronto. They are seeking a Payroll and Benefits Specialist for an 8 month contract on a hybrid schedule (2 days on-site).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage end-to-end payroll operations for both salaried and hourly staff across multiple provinces and two U.S. locations. This includes reviewing documentation, entering data into the payroll system, overseeing benefits enrollment, and preparing Records of Employment (ROEs).
  • Ensure payroll processing aligns with internal policies and applicable legal standards.
  • Draft and regularly revise clear, current procedural documents.
  • Assist the Payroll & Benefits Manager with daily payroll-related tasks.
  • Keep employee records current in payroll platforms and benefit provider systems.
  • Deliver responsive and professional support to employees for payroll, benefits, and system-related questions.
  • Handle all sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.
  • Participate in activities such as year-end payroll preparation, government remittances, bonus and incentive payouts, and benefit plan updates.
  • Contribute to workflow and system optimization projects.
  • Liaise with third-party vendors to ensure timely communication and task completion.
  • Prepare statutory forms such as T4s, T4As, RL-1s, and T2200s.
  • Assist in executing year-end payroll tasks, ensuring accuracy and compliance with required timelines and data standards.
  • Generate tailored reports upon request for internal stakeholders.
  • Acquire a solid grasp of organizational structure to offer system-driven process solutions.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • University degree or College diploma is preferred.
  • 3+ years of payroll experience processing and administering benefits or similar role.
  • Dayforce experience is an asset.
  • Certified Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation is an asset.
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
  • Advanced computer skills including experience with Ceridian Dayforce & Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Knowledge and understanding of US benefits.
  • Excel in team environment and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong customer service attitude along with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships both internally and externally.
