Job Description

We are currently recruiting for our client, a well-established nonprofit organization located in Central Toronto. They are seeking an experienced Accounting Supervisor to join their team on a full-time, onsite contract basis.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee General Accounting, Accounts Payable, Payroll, and other finance functions, ensuring accurate and timely deliverables.
  • Manage monthly reconciliations, accounting period closures, and compliance with the organization’s directives and policies.
  • Lead and mentor team members, fostering professional growth and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain strong internal controls to mitigate financial risks, regularly reviewing and updating system controls, policies, and procedures as necessary.
  • Review and enhance accounting policies and procedures in line with organizational standards, driving process improvement initiatives.
  • Research and implement enhanced service standards and best practice-based Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Analyze data to support departmental KPIs and identify performance improvements.
  • Collaborate with other teams to support the organization’s overall objectives.
  • Provide guidance, evaluate staff performance, and ensure compliance with the Collective Agreement and organizational standards.
  • Exercise prudent judgment regarding financial resources within the department’s budget.
  • Ensure adherence to GAAP, financial policies, and safety standards.
  • Contribute to strategic direction as a member of the Finance Services Management Team.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as required.

Qualifications:

  • University degree or a College diploma in a related field.
  • Holds or working toward to a recognized professional designation such as CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) or PLP (Payroll Leadership Professional) and continue to maintain the appropriate professional membership in Ontario; and
  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible working experience in accounting.
  • Experience and knowledge of the Public Sector Accounting standards
