Job Description

Our Federal Government client is seeking an experienced Access to Information and Privacy Consultant to join their team on a contract basis. In this critical role, you will manage complex ATIP requests, ensure compliance with federal legislation, and safeguard sensitive information. This is a unique opportunity to provide expert advice and shape information access and privacy practices within a key government department.

As an ATIP consultant, you will:

  • Evaluate Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP) requests to determine access rights under applicable legislation.
  • Analyze, organize, and process departmental records, applying the Access to Information Act, Privacy Act, and related regulations, policies, and guidance.
  • Provide recommendations and justifications for the disclosure or non-disclosure of information.
  • Offer clear and concise explanations of ATIP legislation to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Negotiate the scope and parameters of requests with applicants when necessary.
  • Conduct consultations with internal teams, external clients, third parties, other federal institutions, and other levels of government as required by ATIP legislation.
  • Perform additional ATIP-related duties as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Security Clearance: Valid Secret-level security clearance.
  • Language Skills: Must be fluent in English, bilingual in English and French is an asset.
  • Experience:
    • A minimum of 10 years’ experience processing Access to Information requests and consulting with third parties.
    • Proven experience providing policy advice related to Access to Information and Privacy.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage relationships with internal and external clients effectively.
