Job Description
We are currently seeking a Payroll & Benefits Lead for an exciting full-time, permanent role. This is a fantastic opportunity for a payroll professional with 5+ years of experience who is looking for a flexible remote or hybrid work arrangement (onsite at our Toronto or Ottawa office one day per week preferred). As a Payroll & Benefits Lead, you will play a crucial role in ensuring seamless payroll processing, compliance, team leadership, and effective communication. Your ability to provide exceptional customer service, handle urgent situations efficiently, and maintain a high level of financial accuracy and ethical integrity will be key to success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll
- Manage & process payroll for permanent salaried employees.
- Oversee payroll processing for assigned candidates on timesheets across multiple provinces.
- Collaborate with HR to manage onboarding, offboarding, and training for internal staff, ensuring seamless payroll and benefits integration.
- Prepare and issue Records of Employment (ROE) to Service Canada for internal staff.
- Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.
- Oversee and verify payroll data input by coordinators.
- Review payroll forms (TD1, TD1-IN, CPT30, CPT1, etc.).
- Ensure payroll and accounts receivable alignment.
- Process remittances for deductions at source (CRA and other agencies).
- Stay up-to-date with legislative changes affecting payroll.
- Support payroll audits, PIER reviews, and year-end reconciliations.
- Maintain payroll process documentation and recommend software enhancements.
Benefits Administration
- Manage group health insurance, pension plans, parental leave top-ups, and other benefits.
- Work with HR to implement the new Flex Benefit Plan.
- Coordinate the annual renewal process for benefits programs.
- Administer new enrolments, adjustments, remittances, and terminations.
- Act as the point of contact for benefits-related inquiries.
- Facilitate transitions from leaves (LTD, maternity, sick leave, etc.) and return-to-work processes.
- Prepare statistical summaries on benefits participation and costs.
- Ensure compliance with policies and controls.
Team Leadership & Management
- Lead the team of 2 direct reports.
- Hire, coach, and inspire staff while fostering company values.
- Conduct performance appraisals and training.
Education & Experience
Education:
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification (NPI).
- Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) certification is considered an asset.
Experience:
- 4-5 years of payroll experience.
- Strong knowledge of payroll processes, legislation, and employment regulations.
- Bilingualism (English & French) is an asset.
- Microsoft Office Suite proficiency.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize duties, and maintain confidentiality.
