The Corporate and Property Accountant will be responsible for ensuring accurate reporting, maintaining compliance with accounting standards, and providing valuable insights for decision-making. Success in this position requires strong analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to excel in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee accounting operations, including month-end and year-end closings for all corporate and property entities. This involves monitoring accounts payable/receivable, conducting bank reconciliations, managing journal entries, and maintaining supporting subledgers and schedules.
- Coordinate with various platform finance teams to prepare consolidated management reports for the group.
- Handle payroll, overhead chargebacks, and fee billings.
- Monitor cash flows, including daily bank monitoring, preparing cash flow forecasts, and understanding future cash impacts.
- Assist in the corporate business budgeting process and quarterly forecasts.
- Manage compliance requirements such as year-end engagements with external auditors and monthly HST and WSIB filings.
- Develop internal controls and procedures to minimize risk exposure for the company and projects, regularly reviewing internal policies for effectiveness.
- Evaluate existing business processes, identifying opportunities for improvement to enhance workflow efficiency.
- Perform ad hoc tasks as requested.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation preferred.
- Post-secondary education
- Comprehensive understanding of accounting standards
- Familiarity with Yardi software is an asset
- Prior experience dealing with complex company chargebacks
- Prior experience in property accounting
