Job Description

Our prestigious client in the Education sector is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Director of Internal Audit on a permanent basis in Richmond, BC.

This pivotal role involves reporting functionally to the Audit Committee of the Board of Governors and administratively to CFO. The Director of Internal Audit oversees a team responsible for providing objective assurance audit services to ensure governance, risk management, and control processes are effectively managed.

Primary Function

The Director of Internal Audit is tasked with delivering comprehensive, risk-based Internal Audit Plans to the Board of Governors and the Office of the Chief Financial Officer. This role involves providing leadership and administration for all Internal Audit department activities, including recommending a broad Internal Audit Plan, implementing approved plans, and monitoring progress for reporting to the Audit Committee. The scope of work includes assessing the effectiveness, efficiency, and compliance of operational policies, governance, risk management, and control processes.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of finance experience, with at least five years in a management role within an internal or external audit environment.
  • University degree required; experience in the post-secondary sector is advantageous.
  • Professional designation such as CIA, CPA, CA, CMA, or CGA is necessary.
  • Certification as a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Previous experience with administrative and governance-related boards
  • Extensive knowledge of audit practices and standards
  • Ability to manage internal and external collaborative relationships effectively
  • Strong leadership, project management, and organizational skills
  • Ability to travel between campuses as required
