Job Description

Our client in the Manufacturing Industry is currently seeking a Store Manager for their new store in West Kingston. Reporting to the Director of Sales, Marketing, and Development, the Store Manager will play a key role in the set up and launch of the new store including hiring a team of 4-5 salespeople. He/She will manage the team, work with the Director of Sales to create and action a sales plan for the Kingston market, to ensure the store is maintained, and be accountable for sales results in the area.

One month of onsite training in the Ottawa location will be provided to learn about the culture, processes, and business operation.

Location: West Kingston, ON

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a staffing plan with the Director of Sales and hire and train to fill that plan prior to launch
  • Manage team’s performance, including corrective action and termination of underperforming staff
  • Direct daily operations of the store (task assignment, distribution of leads, ensuring “idle time” is used constructively for the business)
  • Merchandise and coordinate cycle counts for local inventory
  • Manage the monthly schedule and time sheets for their staff
  • Resolve customer service issues as required
  • Ensure the Career Path is being followed and the team is trained adequately to operate in their roles
  • Troubleshoot small IT problems to ensure key systems stay online and the store functions well
  • Being available to respond to the security alarm after hours
  • Acting as a keyholder for the store, including opening or closing the store and ensuring these duties are covered for any day the store is open with other staff
  • Other tasks as required.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years management experience in a retail environment
  • Team-oriented with an ability to communicate in a way that is clear and easy to understand
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing processes
  • Proven sales experience, preferably in the building materials industry
  • Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal);
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook;
  • Industry knowledge and previous retail experience are considered assets.
