Job Description
Our client within the nonprofit industry is seeking an Accounting and Payroll Specialist to join their team! This is a full-time, permanent opportunity on a hybrid model based out of Vancouver.
Our ideal candidate will have great experience in accounting and payroll, a strong grasp of revenue recognition principles and have a passion for green initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Recognize revenue, track deferred revenue, and reconcile bank and revenue accounts monthly.
- Assist in preparing monthly reporting packages for senior management and support treasury management activities.
- Create HST/GST and provincial tax reports for online submission and remittance.
- Support the year-end closure process by preparing audit schedules and working files.
- Process bi-weekly payroll in compliance with regulations, including setting up new employees, generating reports, and reconciling payroll records.
- Prepare payroll-related reports, assist in year-end processes, administer benefits programs, and resolve payroll discrepancies promptly.
- Provide clear and timely payroll information and support to staff regarding leaves, benefits, and pensions.
- Generate Records of Employment, distribute T4/T4As, and compile additional year-end payroll reports.
- Support team members and stay updated on regulations.
- Assist in system implementations and process improvements.
Skills and Requirements:
- 3-5 years in payroll and accounting.
- Payroll Compliance Profession certification.
- CPA certification or working towards it.
- Bachelors degree in accounting or related field.
- Interest in environmental sustainability (LEED knowledge is a plus).
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SAP, Sage 50 and Payworks.
- Experience in finance within a non-profit organization.
- Administration and customer service skills.
