Job Description

Our client's in the legal sector are seeking a Financial Analyst to join our Toronto office's Accounting Department. In this role, you'll report to the Manager of Accounting Analysis and Reporting. As a key member of our team, you'll contribute significantly to our accounting operations, collaborating closely with the Manager of Accounting Analysis and Reporting. Your responsibilities will include supporting our period-end close process, conducting account reconciliations, and delivering essential financial analysis for our monthly reports

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Engaging actively in period-end closing tasks, which encompass the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and detailed analyses, particularly concerning headcount and FTE (Full-Time Equivalent) metrics.
  • Compiling monthly reports that highlight variances between actual figures and budgeted amounts.
  • Overseeing the upkeep of the general ledger and related schedules.
  • Generating bank reconciliation statements and addressing any outstanding discrepancies.
  • Contributing to the annual budgeting efforts, including collaborating with operational leaders to formulate departmental budgets.
  • Assisting in the preparation of working papers and participating in financial audits.
  • Fulfilling additional tasks as assigned on an ad hoc basis.

Qualifications and Skills

  • University degree in Accounting, Bachelor of Commerce or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years' experience in a similar role; law firm or professional services environment experience is a plus.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and the MS Office Suite.
  • Experience with Elite 3E an asset.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage time effectively.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to accommodate work demands.
  • Strong team-player attitude and the ability to work independently.
  • Initiative-driven mindset with excellent analytical skills.
  • Able to identify issues, analyze, generate alternatives, implement and support a solution both their own and those of others.
  • Thorough by nature, exceptional analytical skills and a keen level of attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to discuss and inform various people within the department and across the Firm with respect to issues, requests and day to day activities.
