Job Description

Altis Recruitment is looking for motivated and experienced Privacy Advisors to join our talent pool for upcoming opportunities with our clients in the Broader Public industry.

The Privacy Advisor will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive privacy policies and procedures in compliance with relevant regulations. This individual will work closely with various departments to ensure that privacy considerations are embedded in our processes and systems.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing and facilitating requests for access to information under applicable legislation, ensuring compliance with privacy laws and regulations, and promoting a culture of transparency and accountability within the organization.

Responsibilities:

  1. Manage the full lifecycle of access to information requests, including receiving, processing, tracking, and responding to requests within statutory timelines.
  2. Conduct thorough reviews of requested information to determine relevancy, sensitivity, and potential exemptions under relevant access to information legislation.
  3. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather necessary information and ensure accurate and timely responses to access requests.
  4. Provide guidance and support to staff on matters related to access to information and privacy compliance, including training sessions and developing internal policies and procedures.
  5. Conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and provide recommendations to mitigate privacy risks associated with organizational activities, projects, and initiatives.
  6. Serve as the primary point of contact for external parties, including government agencies, media, and the public, regarding access to information requests and privacy inquiries.
  7. Maintain accurate records of access to information requests, responses, and related correspondence in accordance with legislative requirements and organizational policies.
  8. Stay current with developments in access to information and privacy legislation, regulations, and best practices, and advise senior management on potential implications for the organization.
  9. Assist in the development and implementation of strategies to enhance transparency, accountability, and public trust through proactive disclosure of information.
  10. Support the organization in responding to privacy breaches, complaints, and investigations by conducting thorough reviews, coordinating responses, and implementing corrective actions as necessary.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in law, public administration, information management, or a related field. Advanced degree or professional certification in privacy or access to information management preferred.
  2. Minimum of 2+ years of experience in a similar role, preferably in a government, regulatory, or large organizational setting.
  3. In-depth knowledge of relevant access to information and privacy legislation and demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation in a practical context.
  4. Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex information and make sound decisions regarding disclosure and privacy protection.
  5. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively communicate complex information to diverse stakeholders.
  6. Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  7. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with internal and external partners.
  8. Proficiency in using information management systems and software applications for tracking and reporting purposes.
  9. Commitment to upholding ethical standards and maintaining confidentiality and discretion in handling sensitive information.
  10. Knowledge of emerging trends and technologies in access to information and privacy management is an asset.
